Neist
Point Lighthouse, Scotland
Neist Point is the most westerly point on the Duirinish
peninsula on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It is a good place to
see whales, dolphins, porpoises and basking shark. Neist Point
Lighthouse was first lit on 1 November 1909. Since 1990, the
lighthouse has been operated remotely from the Northern
Lighthouse Board headquarters in Edinburgh. The former keepers'
cottages are now in private ownership. |

The river Altaelva has carved out one of the largest canyons in
Europe on its way from the plateau down to the fjord. Most

temperatures are often comparable to southern parts of Norway.

Toftestallen at Øygarden, Norway
The ocean wave power plant at Toftestallen in Øygarden, outside
Bergen, was finished in 1985 but a winter-storm in 1988
destroyed the plant. The picture shows the tapered channel where
the ocean waves wash into a basin about 3 meters above sea
surface. From the basin the water passed through a turbine
generator on the way back to the ocean.

between the plateau of Pulpit Rock and the mountain, and it is

mountain and fall into the fjord, creating a huge wave that will

Eidsbugarden, Norway

Kjenndalen - Stryn, Norway
If you drive on to
the Kjenndalen valley, you will see some very distinctive
scenery. Kjenndalen is one of the finest gems in Norway’s
jewellery box. The valley is like a miniature Grand Canyon, with
high mountains and narrow tributary valleys. The summits are
clad in ancient pinewoods and the Kjenndalselva river flows
along the flat valley floor. |

The cherry and plum blossom usually starts in early May, whilst
the apple blossom dressed in beautiful pink is at its most
stunning towards the end of the same month. |

Svalbard - Artic Norway
A big iceberg in Liefdefjorden that
has broken off from the Monaco glacier. This iceberg reached
several meters above the water surface, which give a hint at the
real size (nearly 90% of their mass is under water!).

Horseshoe Bend, USA
Horseshoe Bend is the name for a
horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near the
town of Page, Arizona, in the United States. It is located
slightly downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell.
Accessible via a 1.2 km hike from U.S. Route 89, it can be
viewed from the steep cliff above, forming a spectacular vista.

Grand Canyon, USA
Grand Canyon National Park is one of
the world’s premier natural attractions, attracting about five
million visitors per year. Longstanding scientific consensus has
been that the canyon was created by the Colorado River over a
six million year period. The canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long,
ranges in width from 4 to 18 miles (6.4 to 29 km) and attains a
depth of over a mile (1.83 km).

Bryce Canyon, USA
Bryce Canyon National Park is a
national park located in southwestern Utah. Despite its name,
this is not actually a canyon, but rather a giant natural
amphitheater created by erosion along the eastern side of the
Paunsaugunt Plateau. Bryce is distinctive due to its geological
structures, called hoodoos, formed from wind, water, and ice
erosion of the river and lakebed sedimentary rocks.

Death Valley, USA
Death Valley is one of the hottest
places in the world. The record high in the park was recorded in
1913 at a blazing 57 °C. This is second only to a 58 °C
temperature taken in Libya in 1922. Since it is often up to four
degrees hotter near Badwater than it is where the official
record was recorded, it is entirely likely that Death Valley
should hold the title as the hottest place on Earth.

Gamlehaugen

Autumn at Gamlehaugen. Gamlehaugen is the official
residence of the King of Norway when he is in Bergen. It is the
former home of ship owner and prime minister Christian
Michelsen. The building was erected in 1900 and given to the
Norwegian state as a royal residence, museum and "national

Full Storm at Øygarden -
Bergen, Norway
The ocean wave power plant at Toftestallen in Øygarden, outside
Bergen, was finished in 1985 but a winter-storm in 1988
destroyed the plant. The picture shows the tapered channel where
the ocean waves wash into a basin about 3 meters above sea
surface. From the basin the water passed through a turbine
generator on the way back to the ocean.

Bondhusbreene - Folgefonna,

The
glacier Bondhusbreen is an offshoot of the Folgefonna glacier in
Norway. Folgefonna glacier is the third largest glacier in the
mainland of Norway. 14 May 2005 Folgefonna National Park was
established, protecting the glaciers and the surrounding areas.
The glacier is home to a summer skiing resort, located on its
northern region.

Hardangervidda, Norway
The
Hardangervidda is a mountain plateau ("vidda" in Norwegian) in
the Hardanger region of western Norway. It is the largest such
plateau in Europe, with a cold year-round alpine climate and is
the site of one of Norway's largest glaciers. Much of the
plateau is protected as part of a national park; it is a popular
tourist and leisure destination for many outdoor activities.

Kannesteinen in Vågsøy,

the rock to the special shape it has today. Every year many
visitors come to take a closer look at the stone. The Kannestein
or Kanne Stone was formed by loose stones and the pounding of
the waves over a period of thousands of years, and stands today
as a 4 - 5 metre high, narrow-footed rock. |

Hardangerjøkulen -
Jøkulhytta, Norway
Hardangerjøkulen is the sixth largest glacier in mainland
Norway. Hardangerjøkulen's highest point is 1,863 m above sea
level. The glacier is easily accessed from the north in the
winter, from the railway station Finse on Bergensbanen. The
