Jølstravatnet (lake) in Jølster, Norway The 39-square-kilometre (15 sq mi) lake is located at an elevation of 207 metres (679 ft) above sea level, and the deepest point in the lake is 233 metres (764 ft) below the water level. The lake is about 30 kilometres (19 mi) long. Jølstravatn is a very good fishing lake.

King Oscar II Grense Jakobselv, Norway.

The border between Norway and Russia is marked with 415 border markers. On the Norwegian side there are no physical hindrances on the border and it is permitted to move all the way to the border itself. On the Russian side there is a fence located anywhere between 0 and 5 kilometers from the border. Although not electrified, it has sensors which will notify the border controllers if touched.

Buer valley and glacier - Odda, Norway.

The Buer glacier is an arm of the majestic Folgefonna glacier in Norway. There is a marked footpath to the edge of the glacier through the wild, lush and beautiful valley of Buer between towering mountains. The hike takes approx. 3 hours return.

Låte waterfall, Norway.

Låtefoss waterfall is a famous twin-waterfall. Låtefoss is the king among our waterfalls and an internationally famous attraction. The total height is 165 meters. It is special in that it consists of two separate streams from its source, Lotevatnet, that meets in the middle of the water fall.

Svelgabreen - Folgefonna, Norway.

The hike along Blåelvi to Svelbabreen (glacier) is a trip through majestic mountain and river nature through extraordinarily green grazing areas, sand banks and polished mountain all the way until you get to the majestic ice wall. To get onto the glacier, you would need to have the necessary equipment and experience.

Antelope Canyon - Arizona, USA.

Antelope Canyon was formed by erosion of Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to other sub-aerial processes. Rainwater, especially during monsoon season, runs into the extensive basin above the slot canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways. Reiseter in Hardanger, Norway.

With the blue fjord, snow-clad mountains and roaring waterfalls as a backdrop, the fruit blossom in spring (like in this picture) is one of the most captivating adventures imaginable.  The cherry and plum blossom usually starts in early May, whilst the apple blossom dressed in beautiful pink is at its most stunning towards the end of the same month or in June.

Husedalen in Kinsarvik, Norway.

The trail through Husedalen is one of the most beautiful hikes in Norway. Four stunning waterfalls in succession on the way from Kinsarvik to Hardangervidda mountain plateau. Hardangervidda is the largest high mountain plateau in northern Europe. The scenery and the waterfalls in Husedalen are breathtaking. Four gorgeous waterfalls right after each other on the way from Kinsarvik to Hardangervidda.

Hemsedal, Norway.

Hemsedal is scenic located in South Norway, right between Oslo and Bergen. The place  is surround by high mountains, similar to the alps, and has a river, Hemsila (on this photo) going thru the valley. Hemsedal is best known for its large alpine skiing area, which is the second largest in Norway, but is also a great place in summer with many activities such as hiking, biking, fishing, horseback riding and more.

Bondhusvatnet - Lake Bondus, Norway

Lake Bondhus with great view to Bondhusbreen - glacier.  Bondhusbreen is an offshoot of the Folgefonna glacier. Folgefonna glacier is the third largest glacier in the mainland of Norway. 14 May 2005 Folgefonna National Park was established, protecting the glaciers and the surrounding areas. Rundemannen - Bergen, Norway.

Rundemannen is a mountain in Bergen. It is considered one of the "De syv fjell" (seven mountains) surrounding Bergen, and at 568 meters is the second highest of them. It's a part of the same massive as Fløyen and Ulriken, but not easily visible from the city center. Nykvåg beach - Vesterålen, Norway.

Nykvåg is one of the largest fishing villages on the west coast of the large island of Langøya in the Vesterålen archipelago. Nykvåg  is also known for its rich bird life in the nature reserve adjacent to the village.

Pico do Arieiro - Madeira, Portugal.

Matterhorn - Zermatt, Switzerland

The Matterhorn 4,478 metres high, making it one of the highest peaks in the Alps. The Matterhorn is one of the deadliest peaks in the Alps: from 1865 – when it was first climbed – to 1995, 500 alpinists died on it. The Matterhorn became an iconic emblem of the Swiss Alps. Neist Point Lighthouse, Scotland

Neist Point is the most westerly point on the Duirinish peninsula on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It is a good place to see whales, dolphins, porpoises and basking shark. Neist Point Lighthouse was first lit on 1 November 1909. Since 1990, the lighthouse has been operated remotely from the Northern Lighthouse Board headquarters in Edinburgh. The former keepers' cottages are now in private ownership.

Of all the lighthouses in the country this is the one which is most exposed to the elements.It is not uncommon to report of wind forces exceeding the hurricane level which is the highest point instruments can measure. Ervikane - Os, Norway.

Stunning sunset at Ervikane, Os - Norway a beautiful day in November 2011. Ervikane, which is located in Strøni at Os, is a large wooded area with many fine coves for swimming. Facilities include a quay, toilets, well and parking.

Alta fjorden - Artic, Norway

Alta is the northernmost city in the world surpassing 10,000 inhabitants. The river Altaelva has carved out one of the largest canyons in Europe on its way from the plateau down to the fjord. Most people live in the town of Alta, stretching along the inner part of the fjord, enjoying a sheltered climate; daytime mid-summer temperatures are often comparable to southern parts of Norway. Finnmarksvidda - Artic, Norway

Finnmarksvidda is situated north of the Arctic Circle and is best known as the land of the once nomadic Sami people and their reindeer herds. Finnmarksvidda, located in the interior of the county has a continental climate with the coldest winter temperatures in Norway: the coldest temperature ever recorded was -51.4 °C (-60.5 °F) in Karasjok on 1 January 1886. The great water Jølstravatnet in Norway splits the municipality, creating two centres of population in Skei (in the eastern end of the water) and Vassenden (in English; "The water-end") in the western part, where the river Jølstra starts.

Drift ice at 80° parallels. The North Atlantic is in fact the only place on the planet where you can be almost certain to pass the 80° parallels with a ship – the northern hemisphere there is mostly icecovered and at 80° you will hit a continent. Briksdal Glacier- Stryn, Norway

Briksdalsbreen (The Briksdal Glacier) is one of the most accessible and best known arms of the Jostedalsbreen glacier. It lies in the Jostedalsbreen National Park. Briksdalsbreen terminates in a small glacial lake, Briksdalsbrevatnet, which lies 346 meters above sea level. The size of Briksdalsbreen is not only depending on temperature, but is also strongly affected by precipitation. This photo was taken in August 2010.

Hardangerjøkulen - Kongsnuten, Norway

Hardangerjøkulen is the sixth largest glacier in mainland Norway. Hardangerjøkulen's highest point is 1,863 m above sea level. The glacier is easily accessed from the north in the winter, from the railway station Finse on Bergensbanen. More information here.

Toftestallen at Øygarden,  Norway

The ocean wave power plant at Toftestallen in Øygarden, outside Bergen, was finished in 1985 but a winter-storm in 1988 destroyed the plant. The picture shows the tapered channel where the ocean waves wash into a basin about 3 meters above sea surface. Hardangervidda, Norway

The Hardangervidda is a mountain plateau ("vidda" in Norwegian) in the Hardanger region of western Norway. It is the largest such plateau in Europe, with a cold year-round alpine climate and is the site of one of Norway's largest glaciers. Much of the plateau is protected as part of a national park; it is a popular tourist and leisure destination for many outdoor activities. More information here.

Preikestolen Lysefjorden Ryfylke

Preikestolen - Lysefjorden, Norway

Preikestolen or Prekestolen, also known by the English translations of Preacher's Pulpit is a massive cliff 604 metres above Lysefjorden in Norway. The top of the cliff is approximately 25 by 25 meters. Once on the edge of the top, as many hikers have experienced it, one may definitely feel the desire to jump, invited by sort of a mystic voice, in a real dream of flying, that contributes to Preikestolen's majestic reputation. Vøringsfossen, Norway

Vøringfossen is the most visited waterfall in Norway. The falls are 183 m (about 600 ft.) high. The falls are located in Eidfjord not far from Highway 7, which connects Oslo with Bergen. More information here and here.

Lac de Ste Croix - Provence, France

The "Lac de Ste Croix" lake in Provence. In the background you can see the Grand Canyon du Verdon. The Verdon Gorge is a river canyon that is considered by many to be Europe's most beautiful. It is the world's second largest gorge, at about 20 kilometers in length and more than 300 metres deep. It was formed by the Verdon River. More information here.

Fedje, Norway.

Fedje is an island municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. The municipality consists of the main island of Fedje which is also surrounded by about 125 smaller islands and rocks mostly north of the main island. The name Fedje applies both to the main island, the main village, and to all the islands and rocks as a whole municipality. The municipality has 561 residents (2014). The traditional economic activity of the inhabitants is fishing.

Half Dome - Yosemite, USA.

Half Dome is a granite dome at the eastern end of Yosemite Valley, California. It is possibly Yosemite's most familiar rock formation. The granite crest rises more than 1,444 m above the valley floor (Elevation 2695m). On March 28, 2009, a large rock slide of 42,000 m3 occurred from Ahwiyah Point. The slide damaged a large area under the dome. The slide registered on seismographs as an earthquake.

Seljalandsfoss waterfall, Iceland.

Brufjell Caves - Flekkefjord, Norway.

From the top of Brufjell (184m), there is a marked trail that leads to the potholes (caves) that lies horizontally at 20 m above sea level. The horizontal potholes were created during the Ice Age some 20.000 years ago when the sea level was higher. The path down to the coast from Brufjell is very steep in places and comes out onto a platform about 10 meters above sea level.

Hardanger is one of the most beautiful places in the western part of Norway and is especially known for fruit tree blossoming in spring – and in autumn (normally in the end of September) - when there is a lot of big red apples in the apple orchards.

Antelope Canyon was formed by erosion of Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to other sub-aerial processes. Rainwater, especially during monsoon season, runs into the extensive basin above the slot canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways. Eidsbugarden, Norway

Eidsbugarden is a tourist center which lies at the western end of Lake Bygdin in the Jotunheimen mountain range on the outskirts of Jotunheim National Park. Today Eidsbugarden is a rather large mountain tourist centre, with a hotel from 1909, restored in 2006, a Norwegian Mountain Touring Association (DNT) cabin and approximately 160 private huts (cabins).

Hellisøy lighouse at Fedje, Norway

The Hellisøy lighthouse at Fedje – Norway - dating from 1855 - was the second tower to be made from cast iron in Norway. Today the lighthouse is automated. Fedje is located on an island an hour and a half north of Bergen. Fedje has an interesting history, telling us a lot about toil and hardship, but also about the indomitable persistance of a people living in harmony with nature - especially represented by the North Sea to the west of the island.

The summits are clad in ancient pinewoods and the Kjenndalselva river flows along the flat valley floor.

Horseshoe Bend, USA

Horseshoe Bend is the name for a horseshoe-shaped meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, in the United States. It is located slightly downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. Accessible via a 1.2 km hike from U.S. Route 89, it can be viewed from the steep cliff above, forming a spectacular vista. Full Storm at Øygarden - Bergen, Norway

The ocean wave power plant at Toftestallen in Øygarden, outside Bergen, was finished in 1985 but a winter-storm in 1988 destroyed the plant. The picture shows the tapered channel where the ocean waves wash into a basin about 3 meters above sea surface. Bondhusbreene - Folgefonna, Norway

The glacier Bondhusbreen is an offshoot of the Folgefonna glacier in Norway. Folgefonna glacier is the third largest glacier in the mainland of Norway. 14 May 2005 Folgefonna National Park was established, protecting the glaciers and the surrounding areas. Hardangerjøkulen - Jøkulhytta, Norway

Hardangerjøkulen is the sixth largest glacier in mainland Norway. Hardangerjøkulen's highest point is 1,863 m above sea level. The glacier is easily accessed from the north in the winter, from the railway station Finse on Bergensbanen.
